System Design & Operation (>300°C)
Fluid service life depends heavily on system maintenance and setup:
Pumps & Circulation: Continuous oil flow is required (speed >3 m/s). Use emergency pumps to prevent
stagnation.
Boiler: Requires exact sizing to prevent overheating.
Expansion Vessel: Essential to compensate for ~20% fluid expansion up to 300°C (7-8% per 100°C rise).
Open Vessel: Low cost, but exposed to air (keep temperature below 60°C to limit oxidation).
Closed Vessel: Preferred choice; pressurized with inert gas (nitrogen) to prevent oxidation.
